Rehab Detox For Those With Depression And Anxiety

April 3, 2011

Much of society assumes that drug addicts start doing drugs because they have had a troubled childhood or they spent too much time partying. Many people who suffer from depression or anxiety begin to take drugs to alleviate their unpleasant symptoms. Many teenagers and young adults do not turn to mental health professionals for help, and begin self medicating with street drugs. An individual with depression may feel better after taking street drugs such as “Special K” or “Kit Kat” which contain Ketamine. The drugs give someone the feeling of floating outside of their body, and researchers have conducted studies to see how the drugs work to relieve depression. Those with anxiety problems often drink alcohol and smoke marijuana in order to relax and feel more self confident. After a short while someone who suffers from anxiety can easily become highly dependent on alcohol and drugs in order to deal with everyday social situations and life problems.

Self medicating is never a good idea and usually worsens the symptoms of depression and anxiety. Someone who is addicted to drugs or alcohol should enter into a rehabilitation facility where they can go through the detox process. The next step is to get a mental evaluation so that doctors can prescribe any necessary medications. Some people receive a dual diagnosis, meaning they have combined depression anxiety problems. A combination of the right prescription medication and psychotherapy can greatly improve the quality of someone’s life.

Many people do not think that they can afford rehab, but there are plenty of affordable rehab centers that provide services to people with limited funds. Someone can find out which treatment centers are the most affordable by calling a few different centers and asking about the cost of their program. Someone may find out that they can qualify for Medicaid or that their employment insurance plan will cover the cost of rehab treatment.
